Steel stairs can sometimes look nothing like steel! In fact, as this beautiful rock maple clad stair will attest, sometimes they just look like timber! But only steel can achieve this level of structural cantilever with such fine dimensioning.
Set in the largest of the Barangaroo South towers, Origin Energy’s new Barangaroo headquarters take up an incredible 7850 square metres. Consolidating two Sydney offices, the new Barangaroo office needed to be a flexible space that encouraged collaboration and allowed staff to move from space to space easily and efficiently. Collaborating with their long term building partner Buildcorp, Origin now occupy a four-floor Agile Based Working space (ABW) at Barangaroo Tower One, Sydney.
Central to the design of this space is the joinery clad structural steel staircase, created by the Active Metal team in collaboration with Hassell Studio and Buildcorp. With sleek lines and varying angles, the modern design fits perfectly into the space, with the light Rock Maple joinery echoing the wood tones used throughout the building. Utilising the cleverly designed base build atrium void, the steel stairs were able to be installed withou any disruptive demolition works or additional support structures.
For more information on the benefits of using steel as the material of choice, please consider this information article. For instance, did you know that over 90% of steel used in buildings can be totally recycled?
