Overview
Reece’s ‘The Works’ is not just a workplace but an experience centre that provides a journey of connection, promotes innovation, and truly represents Reece’s brand, culture, and history. The new office space is located in Cremorne, Melbourne’s digital and creative industries hub and offers a unique blend of showroom, hospitality, learning and workspace for Reece’s clients and staff.
During the design process, Reece engaged Active Metal, to bring their vision to life. Active Metal was involved in the project from an early stage, working closely with Futurespace and Schiavello to create two bespoke staircases that reflected Reece’s brand and culture.
The experience begins on the ground floor, which serves as a retail environment, showcasing Reece’s products and services. A striking spiral staircase leads from the showroom to Level 1, creating fluid, liquid movement within the space. The showroom staircase was designed by Futurespace to mimic water and plumbing, encouraging people to move seamlessly through the levels.
The communication stair connects the working floors on Level 1 to 5, accommodating Reece’s staff and offers a hybrid working paradigm that emphasises agility and flexibility. The communication stair was designed to have a round-mid landing with a floor plate, which gives the user a radial axel to look down at the different workspaces whilst moving up and down, encouraging visibility and connectivity. The design incorporates references to water and plumbing, including copper pipes running underneath the staircase.
The interior design incorporates critical behaviours and signature technology to support successful hybrid working due to COVID-19. Wellness is a central focus of the environment, with initiatives promoting holistic wellness and sustainability available on each floor. The implementation of a custom-designed water wells link to an app which encourages and tracks staff water consumption.
Reece’s Experience centre is a collaborative and open environment that fosters connections between employees, customers, and leaders. The design of their new office showcases them as a tech leader in innovation and design, whilst still staying true to the company’s culture and history.
