Glazed and stainless steel balustrades, 3.0kN crowd loaded balustrade design, glazed and painted steel balustrades, timber handrails, stainless steel handrails, galvanised trolley bump rails
Overview
When the Swedish Furniture and Homewares giant needed a new superstore in Sydney they purchased a difficult to develop but large site close to the CBD. Apart from the challenges of stabilising the site, the company was also faced with the task of reconciling their own international store standards with local BCA and standard requirements.
Active Metal was chosen as the balustrading contractor for this project, designing and installing over 200 metres of glazed and stainless steel balustrades; all in line with Australian building codes. Being a retail space, the glazed balustrade had to be a crowd-loaded design and continuous trolley bump rails needed to be installed for protection. To meet this demanding criteria, Active Metal ensured that all glass was a toughened and laminated 17.52mm panel with additional heat soak treatment to preclude any risk of panel failure.
