Architect: Roberts Weaver (Colliers)
Client: Harper Collins Publishers
Location: Elizabeth St, Sydney CBD
Work completed by Active Metal:
Structural steel stairs, glazed balustrades, timber treads (spotted gum), stainless steel handrails, curved glass
Overview:
When Harper Collins took out a new multi-storey lease in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, the fitout design required the services of an experienced contractor to undertake the stair installation. As with all such installs, the stairs were required to be broken down into sections small enough to be brought onto the site via the goods lift.
Active Metal fabricated the structure, frameless glazing (both straight and curved), timber treads and handrails offsite before reassembling the stair onsite within the tight fit-out lead time. Of note, the limitations of the site meant that the stair was narrower than usual, meaning one side had to have SGP structural glass as it could not have a handrail.
