The sustainable feature stairs allows staff and visitors to fully immerse themselves within the sense-of-nature and art-inspired workspace.
DLA Piper is a global law firm with lawyers located in more than 40 countries, delivering quality and value to clients around the world. In 2021, DLA Piper’s Melbourne office was given a new home in the state-of- the-art 80 Collins St, a premium grade building that houses world-leading corporates and brands. DLA Piper engaged architects Hassell Studio to design the new premises that embrace 3,785 square meters over 4 levels.
The office design intent was to encourage collaboration, innovation and flexibility, embracing a combination of offices with a variety of open plan workspace and meeting rooms for teams to come together. The latest in virtual meeting facilities, break out zones, quiet spaces and a set of feature stairs are instrumental in connecting the whole workspace.
Centrally located at the heart of the workplace, the architectural feature stairs created by Active Metal serve as the conduit for workplace connection and collaboration. The stair structure incorporates a continuous steel plate balustrade with Tasmanian oak timber cladding to both sides. A custom machined timber profile caps off the glazed balustrades in a complementing finish. Timber bleachers were installed on one level, serving as seating to facilitate visual presentations. The light coloured flooring serves as a welcome contrast to the darkness of the timber panelling, with the integrated handrail LED’s creating that delightful wash of light.
