Modular offsite construction was the key to success for this architectural staircase project.
Located in Adelaide’s Mile End, just 10 minutes from Adelaide’s bustling CBD is the Adelaide HQ of the United Workers Union, known locally as United Voice. Requiring a revitalised office fitout, United Voice commissioned True Projects and designers Liquid Design to reimagine their office space in line with their stated goals of Bigger, Stronger and United. Pivotal to the design was the new inter-tenancy stair positioned in the central atrium of the building, driectly under a full length skylight. A simply stunning space!
Active Metal worked with the interior designers and fitout builder to perfect the design including engineering, taking it all the way from concept to creation.
Given a constrained program and against the background of border closures and uncertain travel, Active Metal chose to completely fabricate and finish this staircase in their Sydney factory. This included balustrades, paint finishes, handrails and floor finishes. The stair was then carefully protected and wrapped and then freighted in one section to site. In Adelaide it was then a matter of unloading with a local Franna crane and literally driving it into position. Detailing hoisting and fitting off the stair was completed by the local Active Metal team to a high degree of accuracy and finish quality.
With it’s unique balustrade design, this architectural staircase is one of the hero’s of this new fitout space. the modular offsite construction was key to a seamless delivery and installation process. In the words of the fitout builder Active Metal were a “Professional team, easy to work with and gave total confidence through design and delivery”.
