Overview
At the core of Officeworks Chadstone headquarters lies a collaborative marvel—an innovative staircase connecting four levels, symbolising the company’s commitment to synergy. Crafted by Active Metal and Bates Smart, the staircase, beyond its functional purpose, signifies Officeworks dedication to a vibrant and sustainable workspace.
The staircase features steel treads and risers clad in engineered oak timber floorboards, adding warmth and sophistication. A radial detail on the mid-landing introduces a unique aesthetic, deviating from conventional stair designs.
Continuous rolled steel plate balustrades, painted on-site in Dulux Lexicon Half Matt Finish, seamlessly integrate with oak timber veneer cladding. This harmonious blend creates a visually appealing design, with the timber cladding spiralling alongside the steel balustrade, supporting handrail brackets and forming intriguing lighting niches.
On-site painted stainless steel handrails, ensure a consistent appearance. The stair soffit, crafted from plasterboard and painted to match the balustrades, contributes to the overall aesthetic coherence of the staircase.
Fabricated in four large sections and shipped to the site, installation challenges were overcome with precision, considering the staircase’s size, deep steel plate balustrades, and the need to work within strict tolerances near the glass façade.
The Officeworks Chadstone HQ staircase stands as a testament to innovative design and collaboration, reflecting the company’s ethos of creating dynamic and visually stunning workspaces.
