Overview
In collaboration with Davenport Campbell, Active Metal undertook a project to design and construct a striking orange stair for a Federal Government organisation based in Newcastle.
Positioned at the heart of the organisation’s three-level workspace, this vibrant orange stair serves as a symbolic hub, fostering connection, collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging among employees. The design aimed to cultivate an environment characterised by warmth and openness, nurturing a workplace culture founded on trust and innovation.
The stair actively encouraged daily use by employees, facilitating seamless interactions and idea sharing across different levels of the workplace. This transformation of a functional element into a social catalyst successfully promoted teamwork and cooperation among staff members.
A carefully considered addition to the stair design was the incorporation of timber flooring, chosen to infuse the workplace with natural warmth and texture. As employees and visitors ascended and descended the stairs, the tactile experience offered by the timber flooring contributed to a sense of ease and comfort.
