Clear toughened safety glass – standard.
This is the most common form of glazed panel infill. Shown here are the most common thicknesses – 12mm, 15mm and 19mm. The glass colour shown is typical of standard Australian float glass. Edge treatment is also the standard small arris.
Toughened safety glass – satin frost.
Commonly used in privacy screens and other applications where an opaque panel is required that will still transmit light, the satin frost panel is shown here with a standard clear as comparison. Edge treatment is also the standard small arris.
Clear toughened safety glass – low iron.
When a high quality finish is required, low iron glass can be specified. Technically this glass is purer and of greater clarity and this is evidenced in the bluer edge colour. Shown here is a 12mm and 15mm low iron glass with a standard 12mm panel to the left to demonstrate the colour difference.
*Note that Low Iron glass colours vary according to supplier, plant and country of origin so always ensure that samples have been obtained for approval prior to commencement.
**Also note that some proprietary versions of low iron exist such as super-clear and star-fire. As above, obtain samples for approval prior to project commencement.
PVB Laminated and toughened clear safety glass.
Standard laminated glass for structural balustrades commonly uses a PVB (poly vinyl butyl) interlayer, bonded between the toughened glass panels. These examples are 17.52mm (8+1.52PVB+8) and 21.52mm (10+1.52PVB+10) from standard toughened glass. Other thicknesses commonly used are 13.52mm and 25.52mm. Typically edge finish for PVB can vary so samples should be obtained. PVB is not 100% proof against moisture ingress.
SGP Laminated and toughened clear safety glass
Where a superior strength and waterproof laminate is required for higher loadings and applications without handrails, the SGP (Sentry Glass Plus) interlayer is used, bonded between the toughened glass panels. This example is a 15.04mm (6+3.04SGP+6) from standard toughened glass. Other thicknesses commonly used are 19.04mm, 23.04mm and 27.04mm. The SGP has a typically better laminate edge finish. Common brand name versions of the SGP panel include Skyglass and Vistaview, but most of our glass suppliers can provide the same specification.
