The Long Gallery NSW is getting a makeover…

The Australian Museum is currently restoring Australia’s first museum gallery, the Long Gallery in Sydney. Showcasing treasures from their world-class collection, the museum tells stories of the region and the nation. Active Metal is proud to be assisting in the refurbishment of the Long Gallery, including creating replica cast iron balustrades being fitted to the two levels of the gallery. Taking one of the original panels, a mould was created to re-create the original pattern for new balustrades to level 1, that were then welded into our surround frames.

As seen below, originally the Long Gallery only comprised of 2 levels, compared to the 3 that exist today.

The cast iron balustrades, fabricated by Active Metal are currently being installed along with timber handrails and other miscellaneous works. The Long Gallery will be re-opened to the public later this year.
